Writer Compass How To Write Your Book...On Your Phone ♦️
Writer Compass Advice and Opinion
So you want to write a book. But maybe you don’t have a computer, or the one you have isn’t always available or accessible. Perhaps your typewriter is out of ink, and all your writing implements are missing. Or your long train commute is the only “me time” you get during the day, unless you count locking yourself in the bathroom, hoping your kiddos won’t find you.
Impossible to write that book? Far from it! With some ingenuity—both yours, and tech company’s—you’ll be able to use the one thing you probably always have in your hot little hand to get those words in: your phone.
I’d planned on doing some research on the best writing apps for your mobile devices, but the fantastic Dave Chesson over at Kindlepreneur has already done exactly this. Some apps are free; some have a small fee; some are pricey. Apps are even specialized for general writing, plotting, screenwriting, outlining, even text-to-speech.
Most of the Reines can personally attest to how helpful many are, especially the cloud-based ones. After all, if we’re using a mobile device to write, we want to access our files wherever we may find ourselves, right? We’re big fans of ones that come with our phones, like the notepad app and Pages. Dragon NaturallySpeaking is also popular among fans of dictation. We know of an author who’s written entire spy novels on their phone.
Pro tip: if you want to type on your phone and save your hands, find a small keyboard for your preferred mobile device.
With so many ways to get those words in, whether you’re at a coffee shop or carpooling, you’ll have a sentence, paragraph, chapter, or whole book written in no time.
