Beat 5 – Early Sleuthing: Welcome to the Mess

When your detective says, “I’ll solve this,” the real fun starts—because early sleuthing is supposed to be a glorious mess. This is where your character tries things, fails—and keeps going anyway. Because sleuths:

• Notice what others miss

• Ask the right questions

• Use their brains, not just luck

• Never give up on solving the puzzle

Give them clues, but make them small … at first.
